Which type of trader is this broker suitable for?
Since the eToro stock reviews are consistently positive, it's time to update this guide and see why they have firmly established themselves in the realm of the best stock brokers. With now over 21,000 eToro reviews on Trustpilot and a rating of 4.4 out of 5 stars, attention has increased. The days of describing eToro as just the largest social trading broker in the world are over. Yes, they still hold that distinction, but in recent years they have also become much more.
Our experience shows that the eToro stocks platform is more user-friendly than most, building on some of its past strengths. While it's safe to say the broker is well-suited to beginners, there have been further developments across the board. eToro's stocks offering is now among the absolute best in the industry, particularly for stock day traders who rely on high trading volumes.
The broker uses a specially developed trading platform which, in our experience, makes trading very easy and intuitive. If you want, you can also trade “normally” with eToro. The broker gives you the opportunity to trade with many different financial instruments. These include currencies, stock indices, commodities, crypto CFDs and ETFs . Trading takes place via CFD. The special thing about eToro, however, is that you also have the option of trading with “real” stocks and not just stock CFDs .
Conditions at a glance
- Many different financial instruments can be traded (stocks, stock indices, ETFs, currencies, commodities and crypto CFDs)
- “Real” stocks and stock CFDs are available
- Low fees for stock trading: 0.09% per page
- No fees for deposits
- Minimum deposit is €50
- Self-developed trading platform (suitable for beginners and advanced traders)
- Easy way to use social trading
- German-speaking customer support
eToro was founded in 2007 and has been successfully operating on the market ever since. This is also reflected in the fact already mentioned that the broker has managed to become the global market leader in the area of social trading . Like many other brokers, eToro is regulated by the Cypriot financial supervisory authority CySEC. In addition to social trading and good trading platforms, the broker also scores points with its very extensive range of training courses . This is called the “ eToro Trading Academy “ and consists of live webinars, trading videos and an e-course . At eToro, traders are therefore very well supported in expanding their knowledge of stock trading.
Overall, eToro is suitable for both beginners and advanced traders. For example, there is also the possibility of earning additional income as a „top trader“. This is achieved by having as many other traders follow you as possible.

Regulation and deposit protection
State-regulated broker with deposit protection
When choosing a broker, you should also pay attention to which government authorities regulate it and whether deposit protection is available if necessary . Which rules apply depends largely on where the broker is based . eToro is a broker from Cyprus . In our experience, this is not unusual, as many financial service providers are based on the Mediterranean island. This certainly has something to do with the fact that Cyprus is part of the European Union.
In addition, the euro has been used as an official means of payment there since 2008. eToro is therefore regulated and supervised by the Cypriot financial supervisory authority „Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission“ (CySEC for short) . This authority is comparable to the German „Federal Financial Supervisory Authority“ (BaFin).
Another important point is that eToro keeps customer funds in separate accounts at reputable banks . In addition, deposit protection is in place in the event of an emergency to protect customer capital. eToro is a member of the “ Investor Compensation Fund for Customers of Cypriot Investment Firms “ (CIFs). This fund protects customer deposits up to a maximum of €20,000. Overall, the broker therefore leaves a positive impression in terms of regulation and deposit protection .
- Regulated by the Cypriot financial supervisory authority CySEC
- Separate storage of customer funds
- Protection of customer deposits up to an amount of €20,000
Our eToro experiences with data protection
For our test, we also looked at how eToro handles data protection . When you visit the eToro website, you immediately notice that the broker is implementing the new EU cookie and data protection guidelines . This is very pleasing because it shows that the broker respects the privacy of its customers and in particular data protection. We also liked the fact that you can easily find all the information you need on the eToro website . The provider is extremely transparent and does not, for example, try to „keep its conditions secret“ from customers. This makes eToro a reputable company .
- EU Cookie and Data Protection Directive is being implemented
- eToro respects the privacy and data protection of its customers
- Clear and transparent website

Our eToro experiences with the trading offer
Many different financial instruments tradable
As already mentioned, our eToro test showed that you can trade a wide range of different financial instruments with the broker. These include currencies, stock indices, commodities, crypto CFDs and ETFs . You can also trade both „real“ stocks and stock CFDs with eToro . This sets eToro apart from many other brokers, as trading normally only takes place via CFDs.
Trading with CFDs allows an investor or trader to use the so- called CFD margin . Here's an example: If you want to buy a share at eToro for €100, you have the following two options: Either you buy a „real“ share and pay €100 for it. Or you use the CFD margin: In this case, you would only have to spend 20% of the €100 on the purchase . Instead of one share, you could therefore buy five CFD shares with trading capital of €100. This is why it is also said that the existing capital is leveraged using the CFD margin.
For stocks, the maximum leverage at eToro is 1 to 5. However, if you trade stock indices such as the DAX or the Dow Jones Index, the maximum leverage is 1 to 20. The leverage is even higher for currency pairs such as the euro/US dollar: here, a trader at eToro has a maximum leverage of 1 to 30 at his disposal. When trading stocks directly, i.e. not via CFDs, there is of course no leverage.
How trading works at eToro
In our experience, trading stocks at eToro works like this: If you buy a stock without leverage, you are acquiring a „real“ stock. If you decide to use leverage, you automatically receive stock CFDs. The same applies if you make a short trade and thus sell short. Overall, we really liked the trading offer at eToro. As mentioned several times, the fact that you can also trade „real“ stocks at eToro is unusual.
- Trading with many different financial instruments possible
- “Real” stocks are also offered for trading
- Buying and selling shares is very intuitive
Our eToro test – the trading conditions in review
Below we will talk about our eToro experience of trading conditions . As a rule, the possible costs for stock trading can be divided into the following three categories:
- Costs incurred by the spread on each trade
- Fees for deposits and withdrawals
- Other fees (for example the inactivity fee)
The spread refers to the difference between the purchase price and the sales price . The smaller this difference, the cheaper it is for the investor or trader. Our eToro test showed that the spread for stock trading is 0.09% per side . This can be described as relatively cheap. With eToro, you can therefore also trade in the short term and therefore buy and resell stocks frequently. There are no order fees or commissions, however.

Withdrawal and inactivity fees
We also took a closer look at the broker's fees for deposits and withdrawals . One positive aspect is that numerous payment methods are available. These include bank transfers, credit cards and online wallets (e.g. PayPal). There are generally no fees for deposits. However, this is different for withdrawals : eToro charges a fee of 5 US dollars . This is considered high compared to other brokers . It is therefore advisable not to make withdrawals from your account too often.
You should also note that eToro may charge a so-called inactivity fee . This is charged if you do not log into your trading account for more than twelve months . This fee is 10 US dollars . If you plan not to use your eToro account for a longer period of time, it is advisable to cancel the account. This is because you can reopen your account at any time if necessary. In general, opening an account with eToro is very quick and straightforward. Overall, we liked
eToro in terms of the trading conditions offered . However, the broker should reduce the fees for withdrawals.
- Relatively cheap spreads when trading stocks (0.09% per side)
- Deposits are free, withdrawals are subject to a fee of $5
- Fast and uncomplicated account opening
Services and extras at eToro
Good trading platform for stock trading
As our test continued, we also took a closer look at the services and extras at eToro . We particularly liked the eToro trading platform. You can access it from both a computer and mobile devices such as smartphones or tablets . If you want, you can also take part in social trading at eToro via the platform .
One of the extras at eToro is the broker's “ Trading Academy „. This includes numerous training courses to expand your knowledge of stock trading. These include webinars, trading videos and an e-course . We particularly liked the videos on offer . They teach you very clearly how trading works. In our eToro experience, the numerous videos also make it easy to familiarize yourself with the trading platform. There are also many videos that deal with possible trading strategies .
It is also advisable to learn about money management and trading psychology . Ideally, you should also apply your new knowledge to trading yourself. The free eToro demo account is ideal for this. There you have virtual credit of €10,000 to practice trading.
- Good trading platform (also for social trading)

eToro Reviews & Awards

It is ideal for beginners as it is very clear and intuitive. But advanced traders can also use the platform well. There are numerous drawing tools and technical indicators available for chart analysis .
In addition, eToro performs extremely well in various tests, as the broker allows you to buy both “real” stocks and stock CFDs . The fees are also generally rated as low .
Questions and answers about the broker
How can deposits be made into the trading account?
As already mentioned, eToro offers numerous payment methods to make deposits into your trading account. For example, you can use the following:
- Transfers
- Credit cards
- Instant bank transfer
- Online wallets (e.g. PayPal or Skrill)
In our experience, if the speed of the transaction is of primary importance to you, you should not use bank transfers. These can often take three to five days. The fastest way to pay is by direct bank transfer, credit card or online wallet. One positive thing to note is that eToro does not charge any fees for deposits .

Is there a deposit bonus at eToro?
Due to new EU regulations, there are now almost no brokers that offer a deposit bonus . eToro is no exception in this regard. In our experience, traders should be cautious if a broker still offers a bonus. In this case, it is possible that the provider is rather dubious and traders should avoid it. There are a number of extras for this. These include, for example, the trading academy or the demo account.
What happens if I have questions?
As part of our eToro test, we also took a closer look at the broker's customer support. You can contact eToro via an online contact form . According to our eToro experience, customer service is available 24 hours a day, Monday to Friday. It's a shame that you can't reach eToro by phone . This is often the quickest way to solve any problems. On the positive side, however, support is also available in German . The employees are generally friendly and competent.
Which trading platforms are available?
eToro only has one trading platform available. This was developed by the broker itself and is also very suitable for social trading, for example. You can also trade „normally“ on eToro. You can use the various drawing tools and technical indicators for this. Overall, the eToro trading platform is very clear and intuitive. Unfortunately, there is no connection to the popular MetaTrader 4 .
Can trading also be done on mobile?
Yes. The eToro trading platform is also available as an app . This means you can access your trading account while on the move . This has the advantage that you don't have to spend the whole day in front of the trading screen. The eToro app is available on Google Play for Android smartphones and tablets and for Apple devices ( iPhones and iPads ) in the App Store. Our eToro experience has shown that you can also trade well using the app. However, a larger screen is still recommended for chart analysis.

Personal experiences with eToro’s offering
Overall, we liked eToro in our test. This is mainly because you can trade a variety of different financial instruments with the provider. The special thing about eToro is that as a trader you can choose between „real“ shares and share CFDs. The fees for trading shares at eToro are relatively low. We like the fact that numerous payment methods are available. Deposits at eToro are also free. However, the broker should improve the fees for withdrawals . On the other hand, the very extensive range of training courses is positive . Live webinars, trading videos and an e-course are available.
Beginners should also use this offer to familiarize themselves with trading. The videos in particular are very helpful. Not only to familiarize yourself with the eToro trading platform, but also to learn how to trade . If you would like to try trading with eToro for yourself, you can use the free demo account . This account has €10,000 in virtual capital available. Unlike many other providers, the demo account at eToro is available for an unlimited period of time . You also get full access to the training courses mentioned. Overall, eToro is a good package for traders .
